CommentsThe Second Annual MISSISSAUGA GARDEN FESTIVAL featuring The Gardens of Credit Woodlands Sunday, June 24, 10am to 4 pm A paid tour of private gardens is the highlight of this year’s Mississauga Garden Festival, but at its centrepiece are the free family-oriented activities at The Riverwood Conservancy, Mississauga’s unique, 60-hectare (150-acre) nature park on the banks of the historic Credit River. Riverwood, on the banks of the Credit River, has a rich geological history of ancient seas and glacial events, and a fossil record that dates back 415 million years. Not quite a century ago it was the site of a beautiful stone summer home that still stands on the property, plus a farm and a pickle processing facility. It features regular bird treks, wildflower walks and indigenous days. An artisan marketplace, food vendors, children’s activities and talks—the popular Paul Zammit appears again this year—are some of the festival events. Tours of the Riverwood’s MacEwan Terrace Gardens and the Enabling Garden are also included. The private gardens on the paid, self-guided tour include ravine gardens, woodland and naturalized gardens that reflect the area, plus imaginative front yard gardens and spectacular outdoor living areas. The Cloverleaf and Applewood garden clubs have been joined this year by the Credit Valley Horticultural Society to present the annual Festival. Headquarters and Festival: The Riverwood Conservancy, 4300 Riverwood Park Lane, Mississauga, L5C 2S7 Tickets (available May 1): Garden tour: $20. Festival: free
