Territorial Seed Company’s 2012 Great Northwest Tomato Taste-Off

and Trial Ground Open-House
by Territorial Seed
August 12, 2012

On Saturday, September 8th, 2012 at noon, Territorial Seed Company is hosting the 12th annual Great Northwest Tomato Taste-Off at their retail store, 20 Palmer Ave. in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Contestants from all over the Northwest and beyond will compete for the grand prize of $500 and bragging rights of having the best-tasting tomato in the area. There are great cash prizes for second ($250) and third place ($100) winners, too. The panel of judges include chefs, growers, and garden experts, all who really know their tomatoes.

There will be a bounty of tomatoes and other vegetables from Territorial’s farm on hand for all attendees to taste. With last year’s impressive 3response, Territorial Seed Company is again asking both contestants and observers to share their garden harvest with those less fortunate by bringing fresh produce to donate to Community Sharing, Cottage Grove’s local food pantry. Canned or boxed foods will also be gladly accepted.

Following the Great Northwest Tomato Taste-Off, Territorial will open their certified organic trial and research farm to the public with guided tours throughout the afternoon. Visitors will have the chance to see many of the vegetable, flower, and herb varieties that are offered in the catalog alongside potential new varieties for upcoming catalogs. There will also be the opportunity to see crops that are being grown for seed that Territorial will offer in their catalog.
