July Special Events at Bok Tower Gardens
by Cassie Jacoby
July 4, 2010

Bok Tower Gardens has events for the whole family during the month of July. Registration has been extended for Nature Quest Summer Camp July 19 through 23. In partnership with Pathfinder Outdoor Education, the Gardens will host a week-long summer camp for children first through sixth grades. Camp is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $250 a week for members or $295 a week for non-members. Extended care is available at an additional cost. Sign up online at http://boktowergardens.org/education/children-families/nature-quest-summer-camp/  or call 863-734-1222.

On Saturday, July 24, folk musicians Lee Hunter and Arvid Smith will blend folk tunes with electric guitars and sound-effects to create a style they call “folklectic.” Tammerlin has delighted audiences from Spoleto Festival to The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage with their chemistry and stage presence creating something magical with their unique interpretation of traditional folk songs, as well as their own compositions reminiscent of the 1960s folk era. Dinner choices will be beef Bourguignon or veggie stir-fry.

Through September 30, stop by the Visitor Center to see the “Wish You Were Here!” antique post card exhibit. This eclectic collection of old postcards depicting the Singing Tower, Lake Wales area and other tourist destinations date back to the early 1930s. The collection is on loan from Gardens’ member Kenny Endline.

Enjoy summer admission deals through September 30 at the Gardens. Children age 12 and under will get in free; Florida residents will receive $2 off the regular gate admission of $10 ; motorcyclists will receive the “Bike to Bok” buy one-get one free admission; and receive free admission on your birthday with valid identification.

Summer admission specials do not include admission to Pinewood Estate and cannot be combined with the annual AAA Show Your Card and Save 20 percent discount or any other special offers. Information about upcoming Gardens’ events and activities is available with a free subscription to the “Friends of Bok Tower Gardens” eNewsletter.
