I have found that many seed suppliers have Internet Web Sites that we can go to for seed starting and growing information. The web address for Stokes Seeds for example is: www.stokeseeds.com . You can do a 'Google' Search for Seed Suppliers. If you need a Stokes Seed Catalogue and haven't access to the Internet; phone 1-800-396-9238 or fax 1-888-834-3334. The great thing about seed catalogues, is that they usually include detailed growing information.

Some people might say that it's early to be thinking about seed for next years gardens; but if they would like to grow their own bedding plants they will need to know the correct date to start the seed. Most seed can be started in Feb.; however some plants need a longer germination period, while others require a longer growing period.

Tuberous Rooted Begonias can be grown from seed. Seed can be sown from Dec. to Jan.15th; and if you require blooms for Mother's Day a Nov. 15th start is recommended.

Hybrid Geraniums are started by commercial growers on Dec. 20th.

Fibrous Begonia seed needs to be started in Jan., as does the Dwarf Double African Marigold and Lobellia.

Some perennial and bi-annual plants like Carnations, Asclepias (Butterfly Weed), Echinacea (Rudbeckia), Achillea (Yarrow), Viola (Pansy) and Myosotis(Forget-me-not) can bloom in their first year if they are started early indoors.

Other Perennial plants like the Hardy Phlox, and Bleeding Heart need periods of freezing and thawing to germinate, these procedures require time.

There are also seeds for house plants such as Philodendron, Gloxinia, Palm, and Polka Dot Plant, which can be started indoors at any time of the year.

Equipment such as heated seed starting trays, soil heating cable, grow light's etc. can all be found in Seed catalogues.
