Bok Tower Gardens’ 8th Annual Live at the Gardens

“Broadway and JAZZ” will kick off Bok Tower Gardens’ 8th annual Live at the Gardens!—A Summer Music Series on Saturday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. and continues through September 11. Tickets for the indoor concert with theater-style seating are $15 in advance, $20 on the day of the event, if available. An optional prepaid dinner will be served at the Blue Palmetto Café at 5:45 p.m. Dinners are $17, members $15.50. Call 863-734-1221 or 868-676-1408 on weekends for information.

Sponsored in part by Chalet Suzanne Restaurant & Inn and Marion Yongue of WEDU, the concert will feature Victoria de Lissovoy and Rebecca Renfroe with an all new dynamic and highly entertaining program showcasing Broadway tunes and great American classics of jazz. Guest vocalist Kenan Ellis, bassist Carl Ross, drummer Ian Goodman, guitarist Larue Nicholson and Rick Runion on saxophone will perform standards such as “Green Dolphin Street,” “Masquerade” and “Our Love Is Here to Stay.”

The optional dinner May 30 will include spicy jambalaya with Andouille sausage, chicken and shrimp or vegetable lasagna sautéed veggies and a garden side salad. All meals are served with a roll and butter, dessert and iced tea, soda or coffee. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

On Saturday, June 27, folk singer Rod MacDonald will perform timeless ballads on acoustic guitar and harmonica. Dinner choices will be tomato basil chicken breast with red-skin mashed potatoes or eggplant Parmesan with sautéed veggies and an Italian side salad.

On Saturday, July 25, Dixieland music will be featured by the Good Times Jazz Band. Dinner choices will be lemon butter baked salmon and garden rice or vegetable lasagna with sautéed veggies and a Greek side salad.

On Saturday, August 22, Elvis impersonator Dwight Isenhower and The Repeatles bring back nostalgic 50s and 60s music. Dinner choices will be beef Bourguignon and rice pilaf or eggplant Parmesan with sautéed veggies and a tropical side salad.

On Friday, September 11, Mustang Sally and the Hamjos will perform toe-tappin' old time music and traditional folk music. Dinner choices will be baked ziti with meat sauce or vegetable lasagna with sautéed veggies and an Italian side salad.
