Once again Ashdown Roses in expanding their Rose Festival to include other local growers/sellers of unusual plants. Now in its seventh year the Festival has become a favorite with not only local garden lovers but visitors from Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte and beyond attending the event. Last year Ashdown expanded to include other small Upstate nurseries that grow and sell interesting and unusual plants as a way of showcasing this aspect of agriculture in our community.
This year plants will be for sale from Carolina Wild who specializes in Native Plants, Fielding Cantrell Gardens with one of the largest selections of daylilies to be found, Crescent Growers with their fine selection of perennials & herbs, Motlow Creek Gardens bringing unusual shrubs and shade plants and Ashdown Roses will have their wide variety of Garden Roses available. In addition books on all aspects of gardening will be for sale. Also making its first appearance will be The Peter Beales Complete Natural Rose Care Line including Good Health Roses, an organic fungicide and insecticide for your roses.
Workshops will be held throughout the two days and please see the Ashdown Roses website for times. Additionally the gardens with over 3000 rose plants will be in bloom and attendees are welcome to wander among the some 2000 different varieties of roses covering some three acres. Lunch will once again be available by The Meeting Place for purchase.
The Rose and Plant Festival is quickly becoming known as a plant lovers plant festival where gardeners can go to find a selection far beyond what the large box stores carry, and talk directly with the people who propagate and grow the plants they sell.
The Festival is two days this year, running May 9-10 from 10 AM to 4 PM rain or shine. There is no admission fee for either the Festival or the workshops, and parking is free. Ashdown Roses is located at 2220 S. Blackstock Rd in Landrum, SC. See their website www.ashdownroses.com for details, maps, and directions or call 864 468-4900.
