Born and bred in Edmonton, Alberta. Gerald (Jerry) obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Alberta in 1971 and is certified in landscape design from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Gerald is the gardening columnist for the Edmonton Journal, a position he has enjoyed since 1992. His weekly 'You Asked' column is a question and answer format that answers questions from gardeners on all topics of gardening. His monthly condo column deals with gardening in small spaces. Gerald's columns are frequently picked up on newswire services enabling his work to appear in newspapers right across Canada.
Gerald is also a writer for Canadian Gardening magazine, the P&O Ferries Lifestyle magazine, Economic Development Edmonton and has been a regular contributing writer to IcanGarden since 1999. His articles also have appeared in Alberta Gardener and Gardens West. He is currently hard at work on his first book. The work will focus on Gardening Answers for Northwest Gardeners.
Gerald makes many talks and presentations to gardening clubs and organizations each year. Some of the major presentations include speaking at the Communities in Bloom conference and being the keynote speaker at Borderscapes in Lloydminster. Gerald is the gardening spokesperson for the Edmonton Rona Home and Garden warehouses making several appearances for Q&A sessions in each store in the spring. Gerald is available to speak at your special gardening event on any topic you choose.

Gerald's gardening interests centre around English country gardens. Other interests include Northern Lights azaleas, water gardens, rockeries and Japanese gardens.
