The following will appear in the Peace Country book next year about the Garden Club

Tumbler Ridge Garden Club The Garden Club meets the last Tuesday of each month in Room 1 at the Community Centre at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. Membership is $10.00/year (April – May). In the summer weeding and planting are done at extra times.

We meet to learn more about gardening, exchange ideas, plants, seeds, have fun with a common interest, create interest in gardening in Tumbler Ridge, and beautify Tumbler Ridge. Selling the hanging baskets for downtown is one of our projects.

At our meetings we attempt to have speakers, videos, material or an activity that will provide us with knowledge, material, enjoyment and enthusiasm for gardening. Dr. Helm spoke on birds and Ellis Howard has provided workshops. Our major project is the garden in front of the caboose which was created in 2003. Evelyn Sankowic donated a willow basket. The beds were created and the initial planting done. In 2004, the benches donated by Dr. Charles Helm and made by Garret Golhof were added and an eagle carved by Rob McCallum was placed in the garden. A shed provided by Public Works was constructed to house our hoses for watering for which we are very grateful. Also, a picnic bench was added. The garden will improve each year.

In 2004 we had our first garden tour which was a great success. Twelve gardens were on the tour and the public paid $2.00 to visit these gardens for a period from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The public chose the gardens they liked best and prizes were given to all entrants.

Next year’s garden tour will be July 23rd. Mark your calendar now. Be prepared to enter your garden or go on tour. If you can contribute prizes, wish to promote your business in the “goodie” bags, or sponsor the event, we would love to hear from you.
