I planted Kipfel fingerling potatoes in February in an above ground cage. I figured there would be less moisture to bother the potatoes that way. Now one of my yellow squash plants has powdery mildew and blight and the potatoes showed black spots on the leaves, then expired. Q: Can I harvest anything from the potatoes? should I remove all powdery plants? I sprayed with a neem oil fungicide miticide insecticide. From this discussion I will spray liquid copper tonight. I think I am too late? Will plants recover once blighted?

The reason there has been no chat was that we had a terribly low turnout of folks--often just you and sometimes Shirley in Caesarea. I have no objection to starting it again, but would like to know what the heck we can do to get more people to come on. We've had a relatively mild winter here, and right now we appear to be a narrow strip on the continent that has mild weather!!! We had two sligh falls of snow--on in mid November that lasted about five days, and one last month that lasted only a few days. Do tell me more about this new puppy! |

Your rose problem Michelle sounds like a water problem even though you say "they had plenty of water". Quite possible it was rose midge (Dasineura rhodophaga) even though y ou didn't specifically see the small pin prick holes. Very difficult to control now that we don't have systemic insecticides any more. |

Hello Michelle! Sorry not to have been on for about six weeks, but we have had a 9-month-old standard poodle puppy with us while his owner vacationed in Hawaii. He goes back home tomorrow (Tuesday) so I've been busier than normal, particularly because we take him for at least one long walk daily, plus play time in the garden! We leave him in my office so he does not "get involved" with the Cat! |

well happy new year in case u do make it back.. i dont know if ill check to see if there was a reply or not but my question was about roses.. last year some of my roses got beautiful, huge buds on them .. only to not open, turn brownish and dry up... they had plenty of water and no sign on thjose ones of that tiny hole in the side from that bug... cant remember the name.. any one know why this happened? |

Fareed Zakaria was very good as usual, coming from Hong Kong this week. His major individual guest was George Schultz former Secty. of State and many other positions in the Regan and Nixon administrations. He is now 90 years of age, and talked a bit about gardening!!! |

just checkingto see if there was chat today but i guess a little early even if there is... still mild outside and incredibly i have new delphiniums, primroses, a few roses, and daylilies in bloom.. everything else is mostly thinking its spring and getting new growth.. very strange for the last day in Oct.

I have no idea, but there is mention in the press release that the most recent owners, Halifax-based Clarke Inc (with Roycap Merchant Banking) bought the ting for $5.8 million, in late 2007, and the recent sale was for $10.2 million cahs plus $3.1 million in 8% notes that mature in 2012. That's a nice gain for them. |

Unlike the red one, our C. sasanqua tries hard and produces quite a few flowers, but often a cold few days will get the flowers. And, the C. sasanqua is planted very close to the annoying red one! |
