Shrubs for the Garden
Whether it stands as a single feature in a mixed border, climbs walls, becomes a hedge or allows a profusion of flowers to spill out of pots on paved terraces, the shrub is the essential component of every garden design. Yet, owing to the dazzling variety of species available, a gardener may be both spoilt for choice and over-awed by such diversity. Drawing on 30 years of experience as a hands-on gardener and mingling a wealth of sensible advice with his own unbounded enthusiasm, John Cushnie suggests shrubs to accommodate all needs. With a beautifully illustrated directory of over 200 species and varieties, John guides you through choosing, planting and caring for shrubs, including his personal favourites for every situation. If you want scent, shape or shelter, glorious autumn colour, bright summer blooms or fascinating evergreens for year-round interest, Shrubs for the Garden has the plant for you.

With stunning photography by Marianne Majerus (whose work for Jekka McVicar's Seeds won her a Garden Writers' Guild award), Shrubs for the Garden is a practical gardening book that captures all the effortless, year-round beauty of these indispensable plants.
