The next bedroom you see is from the Royal Mulu Resort in Miri, Sarawak.
The resort is designed in the style of ethnic longhouses. Our luggage
was ferried on a trishaw. The trishaw that you see here is in the middle
of a downpour which lasted about 10 minutes, adding to the humidity. We
were there for three nights and we were in the jungle! The whole resort
is on stilts about 3 metres high. The picture of the bridge in the
background is from my room. The pool is at the resort. We were
entertained at dinner the first night with some local dancers.

The next pictures you see are of our group heading towards a longhouse
settlement, where we met some of the children in their school and also
some of the local crafts that they make and sell. The little building
you see here is their church and I had to take a picture of their
seating …. imagine you sitting on these. Also their bell is an old hub
from a car … make do with what you have on hand! The boat is called a
longboat and imagine my delight is capturing this red dragonfly! Walking
at six in the morning here, you are assaulted with all kinds of strange
noises and birds. The leaves are dripping with moisture and by 9:30 it
is hot and very humid.
Now we are entering into the caves … incredible to say the least … so
peaceful and quiet. Two members of our group had a television camera and
when they put that bright light on, the bats took off…you can hear them
in the caves, making a little clicking noise as they flew past us. Then
of course we saw a cave racer snake … a funny name considering they are
blind. They are not dangerous. We had lunch after two caves then there
were more to explore if we wanted.
