Then on our way to Painswick in the afternoon, we
stopped in Cirencester (Corinum Dubonnorum). This city was the second largest city in Roman Britain. The head gardener chatted with us prior to visiting the Painswick
gardens themselves. It is a Rococo Garden, the only complete survivor of
the short period in the 18th century when gardens in this style were fashionable. It is a garden of whimsy, designed to catch
your attention.
