Powerscourt House & Gardens
Co. Wicklow, Ireland
Powerscourt is a sublime blend of formal
gardens, sweeping terraces, statuary and ornamental lakes together with secret hollows,
rambling walks, walled gardens and over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. An unusual
feature is the pet's cemetery.
Grand in the traditional sense, it has wide sweeping terraces, superb antique sculpture,
wrought iron and a circular pool with soaring fountain.
The garden was begun by Richard Wingfield in the 1740's and stretches out over 45 acres.
Another grand garden set around the 18th Century Palladian House
we had perfect
weather to walk around and take in the view that surrounds this place. The statuary was
incredible to see and I have included a few pictures showing them. The different gardens
each had their own particular piece of sculpture and there were many gardens to visit.
This place has a very interesting history behind it dating back to 1300, and I am thankful
that I do pick up the booklets on the places that I visit
they are an excellent
resource.
