Hidcote Manor Garden
One of the most delightful gardens in England, created
this century by the great horticulturist Major Lawrence Johnston. A series of small
gardens within the whole, separated by walls and hedges of different species, famous for
rare shrubs, trees, herbaceous borders, old roses and interesting plant species.
In general it may be summed up as a garden on architectural lines, deriving from Italy and
France, with lavish and varied planting. In detail, it is a series of gardens each with
definite colour schemes. The purpose is a fusion of scale and contrast complete with a
blending of colour through the seasons.
I have but a few pictures here showing how the gardens looked, with one of the pictures
having three of our group by the steps! I have a thing about benches and found plenty of
those to photograph! Many more in my photo album!
