Hampton Court 2000
Beth Chatto Garden

1pt.gif (86 bytes)Before 1960 there was no house or garden on the site. It was part
of a fruit farm owned by Andrew Chatto. Over the years Beth and her
husband have created an oasis out of this challenging site and you are
in for a very pleasant surprise! You will see drought loving plants
from the Mediterranean on hot gravel soil, woodland plants grouped
to show foliage to the best advantage, water gardens filled with water
plants and moisture loving vegetation and of course a nursery full
of plants to look at and possibly buy!
1pt.gif (86 bytes)I also had the opportunity of speaking with Beth for a few moments
prior to us leaving. She recently lost her husband in September 1999.
at the age of 90 years.
1pt.gif (86 bytes)I have included just four pictures of these wonderful gardens, one of the nursery and the last one of Beth, who I hope will forgive me for
taking the top off the picture in my haste to take it! This will be
another garden for our tour 2001.
