Northwest Flower & Garden Show
Seattle, WA, 2006
The other things I picked up from his
presentation were very interesting to me, as a website owner – he said that
you could not just reply on print advertising any more, that where you had
to be was the web. They have put computers around the show to gather email
addresses and as you leave the show they hand out these cute little fridge
magnets with next years show information on them.

I stayed at the MarQueen Hotel while in Seattle – they offer a free shuttle
from the hotel to the show and in fact anywhere in the downtown core so that
is a real bonus to take into consideration. I had a chance to sit down with
the Manager while there and learned some wonderful things about this hotel.
Ford Motor Company started in Seattle in 1915 and in 1918 they had this
building built to house the mechanics for the automobiles. In those days
they were highly respected employees and this was built to house them as
well as a place where they could teach other mechanics. When they were
renovating they found underground a mechanics area. The rooms are big with
high ceilings, hardwood floors and each has a tiny kitchen and some even
have the icebox in them. There are cupboards beside each door to their room
where they would find clean pressed uniforms hanging and polished shoes that
they had left there. Then it was turned into suites and finally the hotel. A
beautiful grand staircase greets you as you walk in the front doors. Note
that there is no elevator, but there are very nice people there to help with
your suitcase. A wonderful 52 room hotel full of charm, history and very
attentive staff. Lots of shops nearby and good restaurants. Thanks Sandra
for a lovely time while there – it was great to be able to make my own cup
of tea and use my laptop in my own room! Did I mention free internet there
as well? www.marqueen.com
